Full course description
The first two days of Foundational Reading Skills session focuses on the five main literacy skills: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. The training will include both research-based classroom practices and practical sample lesson models, which are ready to be implemented into the classroom. The content will include research and work from reading experts: Consortium on Reaching Excellence in Education (CORE), Jill Jackson, Dr. Anita Archer, David Kilpatrick, and Dr. Louisa Moats. The third day will include some specific strategies from Orton Gillingham methodology which focuses on phonological awareness and phonics sequence and skills. This work benefits all students and assists in strategies for specific reading disabilities, such as dyslexia.
