Full course description
Welcome to the virtual Check and Connect Preparation and Implementation training. This will be a virtual training taking place September 10 and 11 from 9:00AM to 12:00PM CST each day. The link will be emailed. Please contact Becky Cain at rebecca.cain@state.sd.us with any questions.
This is the first training necessary for Check and Connect implementation. This training is for administrators or someone in the school who will be overseeing the Check and Connect program. It is a prerequisite for the Check and Connect Mentor trainings which are scheduled for September 24-25 in Sioux Falls and December 11 and 12 in Rapid City. The Mentor training is for those in the school who will be working directly with the students.
Check and Connect is an evidence based program that provides wraparound supports for students who are in danger of dropping out or have become disengaged with school. This training will provide participants with:
- The core components and elements of Check and Connect
- The context for Check and Connect, including the process of disengagement and the risk factors associated with dropping out
- How Check and Connect was developed, its theoretical underpinnings, and its evidence base
- Steps for preparing for and implementing Check and Connect at your site
Training materials will be provided.
