Oct 5, 2025 - Nov 30, 2025
Full course description
Participants are responsible for purchasing their own book. The book, “Teaching Behavior – Managing Classrooms Through Effective Instruction” by Terrance M. Scott can be purchased on Amazon or at online used bookstores.
Whether you are new to the teaching profession or have been teaching for years, you know that there is always something more you can do to improve your classroom management and student outcomes. If you want strategies to increase student engagement, better manage disruptive students, promote positive behaviors, increase student achievement, and improve student relationships, this book study is for you.
Terry Scott says the key to effective classroom management starts with instruction. His book provides participants with strategies that draw from current evidence-based practices and real-world examples to get to the heart of effective teaching. Participants will gain insight on why instruction is the foundation for all student behavior and will be provided with practical tools for managing all types of student behaviors.
All educators are welcome to participate in the book study and we encourage you to pass this information on to your colleagues. PBIS schools still receiving grant dollars may use that money to pay for the cost of the book.
The class is set up for asynchronous learning, via VoiceThread, a platform for online learning.
VoiceThread is free and we will send out guidance so you can set up your account.
Thirteen chapters are broken up over seven weeks. In addition, there will be reflections and short assignments. The course begins October 5 and ends November 22. All work must be completed and turned in by November 30.
