Full course description
This course, SDDOE Professional Learning Essentials, is intended to prepare DOE instructors and facilitators to transition to the Canvas learning management system (LMS). It builds off of the course Growing with Canvas to provide a DOE-specific framework for course creation and customization. Through a variety of instructional walkthroughs, tutorials, and course management strategies, course participants will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to design and deliver high-quality courses that use Canvas as an effective teaching tool. After this course, you will be able to begin designing and developing your own Canvas course.
This course is structured into five modules: DOE Expectations, Course Facilitation, Course Engagement, Course Modalities, and Additional Items/Division-Specific Information. Each module will consist of a "Spark Your Thinking" pre-assessment, content pages, an end-of-module self-check quiz, and a "Blaze Your Own Trail" collaboration forum.
Pre-requisite requirements have been applied to specific parts of the course to scaffold course content. If there is a topic or content page you are already experienced or comfortable with, feel free to move ahead if you are able.
